Anansi the Spider description
Experience pure joy with the kids – it's Anasi the Spider in Regent's Park.
Children adore live theatre, and this gorgeous show will fire your kids' imaginations with its quirky plot and cool characters. Anasi the Spider is a show especially for younger audiences, playing on the lovely green Picnic Lawn at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre, following a tour of the UK. You can even bring your own food and drink along and make it a picnic, an extra treat for the kids.
The show sold out at the Unicorn Theatre in 2023 and again in 2025, proof of its brilliant storytelling. You'll discover a series of classic West African and Caribbean folk tales about a mischievous spider who manages to outwit much bigger and scarier enemies. Taking us way back in time to a place where animals walked on two feet, it introduces the cleverest animal in the entire kingdom - the famous spider - who is brilliant at weaving spellbinding yarns and even better at tricking his fellow creatures.
Anasi is a cultural hero and teacher whose Anansesem stories formed the backbone of communal gatherings in the Akan society, as entertaining as they were instructive. The stories taught important lessons about good behaviour, justice, and how to be a decent citizen, all told with humour and wisdom. Over the centuries the spider's tales crossed oceans to the Americas, renamed 'Aunt Nancy tales' in Jamaica, Suriname, and the Gullah South.
Colourful staging and equally vibrant costumes contribute to the experience. The magic is brought to vivid life by the Unicorn Theatre's Associate Director Robin Belfield, and the show is written by Justin Audibert.
Pure joy and delight await you in the open air with Anasi the Spider tickets, the perfect introduction to theatre for your little ones.
