Let’s do the time warp again... and this time, let’s do it with Jason Donovan!* Richard O'Brien’s beloved classic is back in London as part of an epic UK tour this summer.
Jason Donovan’s role comes with a glittering past. Tim Curry aced the role of Frank-N-Furter in the original 1973 London production of O’Brien’s masterpiece. He carried on in the 1974 Roxy production, the 1975 Broadway Production, and the 1975 movie. Then, Tom Hewitt took over for the 2001 Broadway Revival. David Bedella played Frank in 2015’s live tribute, and it was all change for 2016’s telly movie, where Laverne Cox played Frank as a transgender female. Brilliant.
The plot, whose book, lyrics and music are all by Richard O’Brien, tells the tale of clean-cut teens Brad and his fiancée Janet, whose car breaks down outside a scary old mansion with dramatic results. The charming doctor they meet, Dr Frank ’n’ Furter, isn’t what he seems, and the fun that follows has inspired more than thirty million of us to turn up, sometimes dress up, and always have the time of our lives.
Directed by Christopher Luscombe, Hugh Durrant is the Designer and Sue Blane the Costume Designer, with Nathan M. Wright the Choreographer and Nick Richings the Lighting Designer. Gareth Owen is the Sound Designer, Richard Hartley created the Original Musical Arrangements and Greg Arrowsmith is Music Supervisor. Charlie Ingles is the Musical Director & Additional Arrangements expert, and Christoper Porter is the Associate Costume Designer.
