Shrek the Musical – Family fun heading to London

Shrek The Musical - the award-winning Broadway and West End show is currently on a tour of the UK and will head into London for a limited time at the Eventim Apollo in Hammersmith from 19 July 2024. Don’t miss the fun - this fabulous family musical is always a giggle, loved by people of every age.

What's the story behind Shrek the Musical?

Shrek The Musical tickets whisk you away to a magical world that delights audiences wherever it plays. Featuring music by Jeanine Tesori and book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire, the musical is inspired by the legendary 2001 DreamWorks animated movie. Following a test season in Seattle, the original Broadway stage production opened in December 2008, followed by a tour of the US and a re-created West End version from 2011-2013.

The musical’s 2008 Broadway premiere attracted eight Tony Award nominations and won the Tony for Best Costume Design. In 2012 the London premiere was given four Olivier nominations, including Best New Musical, and Nigel Harman won Best Supporting Actor. Now it’s back, touring the UK through the festive season and beyond into summer 2024.

About Shrek the Musical

Shrek the Musical follows the beloved green ogre as he teams up with a cast of popular characters, including a talking Donkey, to rescue Princess Fiona from a dragon and defeat the evil Lord Farquaad.

The tour cast carries on into the West End run: Antony Lawrence as Shrek, Joanne Clifton as Princess Fiona, James Gillan as Lord Farquaad, Brandon Lee Sears as Donkey, and Cherece Richards as Dragon.

Theatre legend Antony Lawrence’s great big, warm voice is perfect for Shrek. No wonder he was so brilliant in The Lion King, Mary Poppins, Matilda the Musical, and We Will Rock You. Strictly Come Dancing star Joanne Clifton is amazing as Princess Fiona, also on stage in The Addams Family. Olivier nominated James Gillan has previously worked on Starlight Express, the Royal Festival Hall's Peter Pan, Taboo, Tommy, and Wicked. And Brandon Lee Sears’ dazzling performance as Donkey is just as thrilling as his roles in Dreamgirls, Come From Away, and Motown.

The creative team includes director and choreographer Nick Winston, co-director Sam Holmes, set and costume designer Philip Witcomb, lighting designer Ben Cracknell, sound designer Ben Harrison, and projection designer Nina Dunn.
