Back in 1992, the original off-Broadway version of Ruthless! The Musical sported such famous understudies as Natalie Portman and Britney Spears. Now, 25 years after its premiere, Joel Paley and Marvin Laird’s production finally makes the trip across the pond for its West End debut at the Arts Theatre. It first played in the UK in 2002 at Stratford Circus Theatre.
This version of Ruthless! The Musical will star Jason Gardiner, Lara Denning and Olivier award-winning Tracie Bennett, who recently finished her stint in the National Theatre’s production of Follies. Directed by Richard Fitch, who recently finished the UK tour of Funny Girl, the show pokes fun at Broadway musicals such as Gypsy and Mame. It centres around an 8-year old girl who, while talented, will do anything to the lead role in her school play.
Casting will be announced for the show that plays at the Arts Theatre from 16 March.
