The Oresteia description

The Oresteia explores what happens when a modern family is accidentally embroiled in a Greek tragedy.

The Oresteia, a world-class masterpiece originally written by the Ancient Greek writer Aeschylus, has been given a fresh new face. Expect a fiery, sweeping saga exploring vengeance and justice, populated my memorable characters to deliver a unique theatrical experience.

This version of Aeschylus's legendary trilogy is written and directed by Simon Stone, (Yerma, Phaedra, Lady from the Sea), a long-awaited contemporary version inspired by a piece of drama first performed almost 2,500 years ago. It has seldom been off the stage ever since, turning up time and time again in the West End and across the globe.

The epic plot explores a family ripped apart by generations of war, betrayal and violence. The tragic cycle of the House of Atreus unfolds, from the murder of Agamemnon to the vindication of Orestes through trial by pacifying the Furies. Stone's reimagining repositions the story for today's audiences in a play blending daring direction with intense acting to create a must-see tragedy. Aeschylus' last and best play, the story is as relevant now as it was when it was first staged. Times change, but human nature remains the same.

The Set Designer is Lizzie Clachan, the Costume Designer is Mel Page, and the Composer is Stefan Gregory. The creative team also includes Lighting Designer Nick Schlieper and Casting Director Jessica Ronane CDG, and the producers are London Theatre Company and Wouter van Ransbeek.

The impact of violence doesn't just affect current generations, it ripples through. The Oresteia tickets reveal the consequences as they affect one family, asking what real morality, satisfying revenge, and true justice are achievable or just a dream.
