Oh, Mary! description
You'll love Oh Mary!, Cole Escola's dark comedy about the USA's First Lady.
Cole Escola's outrageous, absurd and totally irresistible comedy is being billed as something amazing, fresh from the brain of a writer and performer with an extraordinary imagination. Welcome to Oh, Mary!, an eccentric re-framing of the life and times of the wife of the famous US President Abraham Lincoln during the time before her husband was assassinated.
Expect frustrated love, booze-fuelled madness and a seriously camp experience as Mary Lincoln's life and historical events are given a whole new slant. This is absurdist humour at its finest, described as 'one of the best comedies in years' and 'a work of deranged beauty', enough to inspire anyone to buy tickets! It has already enjoyed a highly successful Broadway run along with numerous awards including Tonys for Best Leading Actor in a Play for Escola, and Best Direction of a Play for Sam Pinkleton. It is also a Drama League Award winner and a Pulitzer Prize finalist.
Super-fast action and hilarious jokes are the name of the game in this critically acclaimed one-act, eighty-minute play. Mary Lincoln is trapped in a bad marriage, unhappy with her restrictive public role. Frustrated and filled with longing, Mary's emotions are a mix of romantic longing, dramatic outbursts, and unwise indulgence. Sharp wit and plenty of twists make this a satirical tale to remember, starring a temperamental alcoholic who's stuck in an unhappy marriage and longs to return to her former life as a cabaret star.
The fun is written by Actor, Writer, Producer, Soundtrack and Director Cole Escola (Ziwe, The Other Two, Sarah Cooper: Everything is Fine) and directed by Sam Pinkleton. The Scenic Designer is dots, with Costume Design by Holly Pierson, Lighting Design by Cha See and Sound Design from Daniel Kluger and Drew Levy. The wigs are designed by Leah J. Loukas, the Original Music comes from Daniel Kluger and the Arrangements are by David Dabbon.
Oh Mary! tickets are all about the laughs, an award-winning dark comedy like no other.
