Into The Hoods description
The same fairy tales as Into the Woods, relocated to a London estate and told entirely in hip-hop dance.
Children get lost on the Ruff Endz estate and are told by MC Rapunzel that they can find their way home only by fetching four things for her: a pair of trainers, a hoodie, a weave and an iPod. The search takes them past versions of the fairy tales everyone knows, recast as estate characters, with Lil Red, Spinderella and the rest given new problems and new music. There is no dialogue in the conventional sense; the whole story is carried by choreography.
Into The Hoods came out of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and transferred to the Novello Theatre in 2008, becoming the first hip-hop dance show to play the West End, where it ran for five months. The company won the WhatsOnStage Award for Best Ensemble Performance, and a remixed version later played the Peacock Theatre and toured the UK.
The show is created, directed and choreographed by Kate Prince, founder of ZooNation, who was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best Theatre Choreographer for this production and whose other work includes Some Like It Hip Hop, Message In A Bottle and the movement for Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
The show is danced by a ZooNation company. Casting and venue for this run have not yet been announced.
