New musical Fighting With My Family is adapted from Dwayne Johnson's smash hit movie.
The hit 2019 wrestling movie Fighting With My Family starred Florence Pugh and Dwayne Johnson, directed by Stephen Merchant. It told the true story of the UK pro wrestling legend Saraya Knight, AKA Paige, as she worked her way up to compete in World Wrestling Entertainment matches with the USA's prestigious pro wrestling promotion and entertainment company.
She may have been a goth and an outsider, but Paige pulled a unique punch as a member of a professional wrestling family. Then she's given the chance to leave Norwich and immerse herself in the world of WWE. In the USA she and her brother Zak run across Dwayne Johnson, the hugely successful wrestler known as 'The Rock' before he pivoted into acting, and his career advice proves life-changing.
Dwayne Johnson's own production company is collaborating on the musical, along with Tilted Musicals, the production company run by the brilliant Girls Aloud songwriter Miranda Cooper and producer Sam Hodges. There's a book and lyrics by the Olivier Award-winning playwright Jon Brittain plus music from Brit Award-winning songwriter Cooper and the Ivor Novello-nominated composer, Nick Coler.
The word on the streets is the music will be inspired by British pop music to showcase Paige's wonderfully eccentric, loving family. And the show is set to be about much more than wrestling. There are heroes and villains, brilliant storytelling, themes of family, community and belonging, all told by off-the-wall characters who love each other deeply.
