Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga description
It's funny, glittery, warm-hearted and irreverent – you'll love the Eurovision Musical.
Great news - the Eurovision Musical is in development! We all loved this year's Eurovision song contest, a show that's almost seventy years old, an annual extravaganza of a televised concert stuffed with dancing, music, big hair, wind effects and extraordinary costumes. Millions of people adored the 2020 Netflix movie Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, too. Now there's a fresh new comedy musical based on the film, written by US comedy actor and TV producer Will Ferrell (Elf, Anchorman, Barbie), writer Harper Steele, and the TV and Broadway writer Anthony King. The show is directed by Alex Timbers.
This is the story of ambitious amateur musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir, who dream of representing Iceland at Eurovision. Encountering scheming rivals and all sorts of comedy mishaps along the way, they finally find themselves with a chance thanks to a freak accident.
The Eurovision Song Contest is the biggest live music event on the planet, creating international superstars like Celine Dion, Loreen, Alexander Rybak and ABBA. A glamorous spectacle packed with larger than life competitors, it makes the perfect stage musical. Apparently, director Alex Timbers can’t wait to bring the same compelling blend of fun to theatre audiences.
The song My Hometown was nominated for a Best Original Song Academy Award, written by Kotecha, Fat Max Gsus, and Rickard Goransson, and the team has been described by Eurovision director Martin Green as 'stellar'. Whether you're a dyed-in-the-wool Eurovision watcher or just love a laugh, this uplifting, dazzling musical celebrates the magic of Eurovision with its tongue where it belongs: firmly in its cheek.
It's time to return to 'where the whales can live 'cos they're gentle people'. Grab your tickets for the Eurovision Musical and re-live the magic all over again.
