Death Note The Musical brings the cult Japanese manga to the London stage in a dark thriller about a student who gains the power to kill with nothing more than a name.

Light Yagami is a bright but dissatisfied high school student in Tokyo who stumbles upon a notebook dropped by Ryuk, a bored god of death. Anyone whose name is written in its pages will die. Light begins using the Death Note to eliminate criminals, appointing himself judge and executioner of a new world order. As the mysterious killings mount, a brilliant detective known only as L is called in to track him down, setting off a tense game of cat and mouse in which each man races to discover the other's identity first.

Based on the best-selling manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, which has sold tens of millions of copies worldwide, the musical was named Best Musical at the Korea Musical Awards. Its limited six-week engagement at the Barbican Theatre marks the show's London premiere.

The score is by Frank Wildhorn, composer of Jekyll & Hyde, Dracula and Bonnie & Clyde, with lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book by Ivan Menchell. The production is directed by Stephen Whitson, associate director of the West End productions of Hamilton and Moulin Rouge!, with choreography by Olivier Award winner Fabian Aloise and set designs by Jon Bausor.

The cast is led by Xander Pang as Light and Colin Ryan as the detective L, joined by Telly Leung as Ryuk, Stephanie Zaharis as Misa Amane, Grace Mouat as Rem and Paolo Montalban as Soichiro Yagami.
