Russell Tovey's solo thriller The Guilty transfers from the Donmar Warehouse to the Harold Pinter Theatre for a limited run from 16 January to 3 April 2027, and public booking opens at 10am on 16 October.
The Guilty is heading into the West End. The Donmar Warehouse production sold out its run there this summer, and it now begins previews at the Harold Pinter Theatre on Saturday 16 January 2027. Press night is Wednesday 27 January at 7pm, and the season ends on Saturday 3 April.
Russell Tovey is back as Joe, the part he created at the Donmar, and he is the only person on stage. Joe is a police officer who has been taken off the streets and put on desk duties. One night he answers a 999 call from Emily, a woman in danger, and has to work out from broken fragments what is happening to her. The evening keeps changing shape, and Joe grows less and less sure of what he is hearing.
It is not Tovey's first visit to this address: he appeared in Pinter at the Pinter at the same theatre, and his earlier Donmar work includes Constellations, which played the Vaudeville Theatre.
Chloë Moss wrote the stage version, working from the film Den Skyldige by Gustav Möller and Emil Nygaard Albertsen. Felix Barrett, who founded Punchdrunk and made Sleep No More and The Burnt City with the company, directs.
Behind the scenes, Alex Eales designs the set, Anna Watson the lighting, Gareth Fry the sound and Luke Halls the video. Elin Schofield is associate director, Jessy Roberts assistant director and Lotte Hines CDG casting director, with Chris Hay as production manager.
Tovey said: “I’ve never quite had an experience like The Guilty, every single performance at the Donmar vibrated with an energy I’ve never felt on stage - audience and performer connected and intertwined - I cannot wait to perform it in The Pinter.”
The Donmar’s Artistic Director Tim Sheader and Executive Director Henny Finch said: “Donmar audiences were mesmerised this summer by The Guilty in our intimate theatre, and we are excited that even more people will now get to experience this ‘thrilling shot of theatrical adrenaline’ (The London Standard) as it transfers into the West End.”
The transfer comes from SENSARA, Mark Rubinstein and the Donmar Warehouse, presented with Tilted and Rupert Gavin/Mallory Factor. Seats start at £30, and more than 20,000 across the run are priced at £40 or less.
Public booking opens at 10am on Friday 16 October 2026 for The Guilty at the Harold Pinter Theatre on Panton Street. Performances are Monday to Saturday at 7.30pm, with matinees on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2.30pm.
