Roleplay, the one-woman comedy-thriller written and performed by Hannah Reilly, comes to Soho Theatre from 22 October to 21 November, straight from a four-star run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Soho Theatre has taken Roleplay for a five-week run this autumn, playing from 22 October to 21 November 2026. It arrives straight from the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, where the show had its world premiere at Summerhall through August.
Written and performed by Hannah Reilly and directed by Paige Rattray, the play follows a broke feminist podcaster who rebrands herself as a provocative influencer in pursuit of fame, then finds the persona harder to put down than she expected. It opens as comedy and turns into something closer to a psychological thriller, with podcast culture, personal branding and the monetising of intimacy all in its sights.
Two well-resourced producers are behind it. Francesca Moody Productions staged both Fleabag and Baby Reindeer long before either reached television, and its recent work includes Weather Girl and Kathy and Stella Solve a Murder!. Global Creatures is the company behind Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
Hannah Reilly is the recipient of the ATYP Rebel Wilson Comedy Commission, under which she developed the musical comedy The Deb. Paige Rattray directed Fangirls at the Lyric Hammersmith in 2024 and spent three years as Director of New Work and Artistic Development at Sydney Theatre Company.
Paige Rattray said: "ROLEPLAY is raw and unpredictable. It's the kind of piece that says the things people are thinking but are too scared to say out loud. Hannah has written something that pushes into uncomfortable territory with real precision, exposing the way we perform, desire, and hide in equal measure."
The Fringe run drew four-star reviews from The Scotsman, The Guardian and the Daily Mail, and the show was named a top pick by The Guardian, Time Out and The Telegraph. It is recommended for ages 18 and over, and carries content warnings for discussions of sexual assault, nudity and explicit language.
It is the second Francesca Moody Productions title heading for the venue this season, following Crybabies: The Scaring in September.
