A Christmas Carol description

Thanks to Sonia Friedman Productions for presenting the marvellous Jim Broadbent as the man himself, the incredibly nasty and mean Mr Scrooge, in a story inspired by Charles Dickens' all-time classic story. And thanks to the Noel Coward theatre for giving us such a superb theatrical gift.

Adapted by Patrick Barlow and directed by Phelim McDermott, the show marks a long-anticipated return to the stage for Jim Broadbent. He's set to play a fantastic part in bringing the age-old classic tale to vibrant life, complete with all the greed, grief, terror, spirits and eventual redemption you could possibly want from a festive theatre event.

Barlow's adaptation is, by all accounts, wonderfully imaginative and brings Dickens' ever-popular characters to dramatic reality. The remainder of the cast are to be announced, but one thing is clear: you can expect an unforgettable show.

Patrick Barlow, of course, is the writer behind The 39 Steps, a massive West End monster of a madcap hit. He and Jim Broadbent are no strangers either, Broadbent having played an essential part in Barlow's infamous cult comedy group, The National Theatre of Brent.

The director is an award-winner, proud owner of an Olivier and the Artistic Director of the Improbable theatre company, one of Britain's most extraordinary and creative. He's Phelim McDermott, and he also directed Theatre of Blood at the National Theatre, the last show in which which Jim Broadbent appeared on stage.

If that isn't enough for you, the talented and critically-acclaimed designers Tom Pye and Toby Sedgwick direct the movement, Peter Mumford designs the lighting and Gareth Fry is the sound designer.

Head for the Noel Coward theatre this Christmas for the festive experience of a lifetime. The glittering West End awaits you, complete with bright lights and a warm theatreland welcome.

A Christmas Carol tickets – Happy endings for everyone!
