We're Gonna Kill Billy description
We're Gonna Kill Billy is a new comedy eco-thriller about four teenage girls who take drastic action to protect their local wildlife.
A billionaire developer is planning to build a marina that will destroy the wildlife on the girls' doorstep, and they decide that protest alone will not stop him. Their plan has two steps. Step one: kidnap his grandson. Step two: revolution. The play follows what happens when four teenagers put that plan into action, and asks how far they are prepared to go for a cause they believe in.
The play receives its world premiere in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square. It won the Concord Theatricals Unpublished Playwright Award and was first featured in the Royal Court's Open Submissions Festival, in partnership with Character 7. The production is also a sustainability case study: through a partnership between the Royal Court, ReStage and NT Green Store, its sets, props and costumes are sourced from existing stock and will be given a future life after the final performance. It is recommended for ages 14+ and contains depictions of kidnapping, violence and police brutality.
The play is the professional debut of writer Alex Medland. It is directed by Aneesha Srinivasan, an Associate Director at the Royal Court and an Olivier Award nominee whose credits include Godot's To-Do List. Design is by Shankho Chaudhuri, with casting by Saffeya Shebli.
