Trainspotting The Musical description
Choose life with Trainspotting The Musical, a stage version of the award-winning 1996 movie.
Are you one of countless millions of people who saw and loved the film back in the '90s? Maybe you're new to this legendary story. Either way Trainspotting The Musical has been anticipated for a long time. This is the adaptation's world premiere, on at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, and the fun kicks off in July.
2026 marks the film's thirtieth birthday. The story comes from Irvine Welsh, based on his best-seller book. Caroline Jay Ranger directs, having also developed the musical. There are plenty of the blistering classics from the movie, plus 'confrontational and defiant' new music from Stephen McGuinness with lyrics from Irvine Welsh. It makes the perfect accompaniment to the dark but life-affirming plot about rebellious outsiders Begbie, Renton, Tommy, Kelly Sick Boy and Spud. With a large ensemble cast on board and a live band on stage, it's going to be quite a spectacle.
The film defined a generation. The musical adaptation takes the story to a new place, a setting reflecting today's uncertain times. Think provocative, think enlivening, think inspiring and you won't be disappointed. You'll leave the venue feeling uplifted and empowered.
Everyone wants to see this brand new musical. According to the experts Trainspotting The Musical tickets are going to sell out super-fast. Better get your skates on!
