Tosca - English National Opera description
ENO is presenting Puccini's beloved masterpiece Tosca at the London Coliseum.
Described as a gripping new production, this time around Tosca is directed by Annilese Miskimmon and stars Axelle Fanyo. You'll be on the edge of your seat as this gorgeous classic tale of love, power, and political intrigue unfolds, reimagined perfectly for 2026.
The action is set in a modern concert hall somewhere in Europe. The opera singer Floria Tosca and her lover, painter Mario Cavaradossi, are forced to dodge the growing danger, oppression, fear and violence brought by the dodgy police chief Scarpia. Resistance, love, the power of art, political censorship and civil conflict are the themes, making this a dazzling stand-alone experience as well as the perfect companion to Kaija Saariaho's Adriana Mater, also presented by ENO this season.
Performed in English in a translation by Amanda Holden, Pucinni's dramatic, intense score includes legendary favourites like Vissi d'arte and E lucevan le stelle. Expect a fast-paced emotional plot mixing romance, suspense and high drama to create a wonderful experience for seasoned opera lovers and newcomers alike.
The Conductor is Ben Glassberg. Tosca is played by Axelle Fanyo on her debut with the ENO. Cavaradossi is sung by Chaz'men Williams-Ali, and two singers share the role of the evil Scarpia: Christopher Purves and Craig Colclough. Angelotti is sung by Alaric Green, Sacristan by Robert Hayward and Spoletta by Osian Wyn Bowen. Sciarrone is sung by Steffan Lloyd Owen / Christopher Nairne and the Children's Chorus is sung by Marlborough Primary School in partnership with ENO.
