The Tempest description
The Tempest at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre will captivate you.
Shakespeare's Globe has announced two new productions for the winter 2026 season, on stage at the atmospheric, candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. The Tempest is one of them. Award-winning theatre maker Tim Crouch (An Oak Tree) both directs and stars, playing Prospero in a fresh new production of The Bard's beloved tragi-comedy-romance. Expect an immersive experience, thrilling storytelling, and a unique theatrical angle.
The plot follows Prospero, the Duke of Milan, who has been thrown off the throne by his wicked brother Antonio and banished to a remote island with Miranda, his daughter. Years later, in search of revenge, Prospero harnesses magic to conjure up a violent storm, wrecking his brother's ship on the island. As a castaway, Antonio plots even more treachery. Meanwhile, the drunken servants Stephano and Trinculo hatch a plan to overthrow Prospero. Prospero's enslaved servant Caliban dreams of freedom. And his daughter falls in love with Ferdinand, son of the King of Naples. Eventually Prospero gives up his magic, forgives everyone, restores order, frees the spirit Ariel, and decides to go home to Italy. As it turns out, reconciliation is better than revenge.
The cast includes Naomi Wirthner (Slow Horses, How to Train Your Dragon) as Ariel, Faizal Abdullah as Caliban, Colin Michael Carmichael as Sebastian, Joshua Griffin as Ferdinand, Amanda Hadingue as Antonia, Tyrone Huggins as Gonzalo, Mercè Ribot as Trinculo, Patricia Rodriguez as Stephano, Sophie Steer as Miranda, and Jo Stone-Fewings as Alonso.
The creative team includes Associate Director Justina Kehinde, Candlelight Designer Anna Watson, Composer Orlando Gough, Designer Rachana Jhadav, and Voice and Text Consultant Annemette Verspeak.
Pure drama by candlelight, The Tempest tickets let you experience Shakespeare in the same way his audiences saw it when he was alive. Magic.
