The Sicilian Vespers - Royal Ballet and Opera description
Bloodthirsty tragedy awaits you in Verdi's grand opera The Sicilian Vespers.
This thrilling story of loyalty and revenge takes place in opulent 1800s Paris, sung in French with English captions displayed on screens around the venue.
The Sicilian Vespers is based on a real historical event in 1282, in Palermo on the French-occupied island of Sicily, where local noblewoman Hélène wants revenge for her brother's execution. Her lover, Henri, has Sicilian roots, but he's also loyal to the invaders' governor, Montfort, who turns out to be his father. As political tensions rise, the couple's relationship starts to fail.
Speranza Scappucci's debut as Principal Guest Conductor of The Royal Opera brings Verdi's grand opera to life. It is produced by Stefan Herheim with an all-star cast including Marina Rebeka, SeokJong Baek, Ildebrando D'Arcangelo and Quinn Kelsey.
Buy The Sicilian Vespers tickets for monumental staging, an electrifying atmosphere, world-class singing and Verdi's soaring music.
