The Popinjay Cavalier description
The Popinjay Cavalier is movie legend Quentin Tarantino's first play.
Tarantino's 2021 book mirrored his 2019 film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, published by HarperCollins. Now he's taking his unusual genius in another direction, this time onto the stage with The Popinjay Cavalier, described as a 'British swashbuckler farce'. Others have predicted a 'classic British trouser-dropping farce', so the signs are pretty good for a laugh a minute.
The plot is set in Europe during the 1830s, a lively comedy of deception and disguise inspired by old-
school 1950s stage and screen epics like The Buccaneers, The Sword of Freedom, The Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel and The Count of Monte Cristo.
How did it come about? In 2025 Tarantino announced he was writing a stage play, planning to move to London to produce the show in early 2026. We're delighted to say that now it's set to open in the West End for early 2027, with Sonia Friedman Productions and Sony Pictures Entertainment as the producers.
Secure your The Popinjay Cavalier tickets as soon as they're available to see how well Tarantino's brilliant storytelling skills play out on the London stage.
