The Magic Flute description
Mozart's beloved masterpiece The Magic Flute whisks us away on a quest for love.
Mozart's hugely popular opera, The Magic Flute, has been given the David McVicar treatment, a glittering affair full of enchantment. The conductors are Marie Jacquot on her Covent Garden debut and fellow conductor Finnegan Downie Dear. The story is sung in German with captions and translations in English, displayed on screens for easy understanding.
Mozart died at age 35. This was his final opera. It premiered in 1791 and was a smash hit from the start as well as scandalous, exposing some of Freemasonry's close-held secrets in the plot. The Queen of the Night sings some mind-blowing arias. The Overture itself snaps with high energy. Papageno sings wonderfully catchy tunes and Pamina and Taminos' melodies are stunning.
Prince Tamino loves the Queen of the Night's daughter Pamina. The bird-catcher Papageno adores Papagena. Tamino promises to rescue Pamina from the enchanter Sarastro. Accompanied by Papageno he sets off on his quest. But nothing is quite what it seems. As it turns out, the dreaded Sarastro is a kind, wise leader. Guided by a magic flute they encounter monsters, villains and a bizarre brotherhood. Three ordeals later, will Tamino and Papageno be united with their true loves?
There are two casts involved, including Julia Bullock and Lucy Crowe as Pamina, Amitai Pati and Mingjie Lei as Tamino, Huw Montague Rendall as Papageno, Kathryn Lewek and Annie Fassea as the Queen of the Night, with Soloman Howard and Timo Riihonen as Sarastro.
Enter a dazzling world of fantasy with The Magic Flute tickets, an opera to remember whether you're a seasoned fan or a beginner to the genre.
