The Last Man description
You're the only one left. You only have one choice. It's The Last Man.
Welcome to the post-apocalypse world. The The Last Man is a compelling one-person musical that takes us to the heart of a global disaster. A witty psychological thriller loved for its crisp dialogue and thundering live rock score, it sold out in Seoul. Now it's on stage at the Southwark Playhouse, a powerful exploration of what 'being human' really means.
A strange virus spreads around the globe, leaving the world silent and empty. But there's one survivor hiding in a bunker under the streets of Seoul. As time passes and supplies run short, the isolation starts to play tricks on The Survivor's mind. Reality bends. Old memories surface. Time splinters. It's terrifying. Then the power is finally cut off and the monsoon season begins. Does The Survivor want to survive, or do they decide to live?
This world premiere of the reimagined English language version of Jishik Kim's remarkable musical is designed to delight your dark side. Awarded five stars by the Society of London Theatre, the immersive sound design and bleak humour add to the drama.
Nabi Brown and Lex Lee share the role of The Survivor across performances. Score-wise the music director Amy Hsu plays keyboard, with Charlie Laffer on guitar, Jon Cox on bass, Rhys Davies on drums and Elizabeth Boyce on violin. Jishik Kim wrote the books and lyrics and Seungyeon Kwon composed the music. We have dramaturg Jethro Compton and director Daljung Kim on board, along with set design by Shankho Chaudhuri, lighting design by Cheolmin Cho, sound design by Liam McDermott and costume design by Anna Kelsey. The casting comes from Grace McInerny for Pippa Ailion and Natalie Gallacher is the casting director.
This is an extraordinary psychological thriller combining live rock music and video diary content to tell a compelling story of isolation and loneliness. Buy The Last Man tickets to see a musical with an enormous cult following in Korea.
