The Holy Rosenbergs description

First staged in 2011 at the National Theatre, The Holy Rosenbergs hits hard for the 2020s.

Ryan Craig's provocative play is back. Don't miss The Holy Rosenbergs, in town for a major revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory.

The setting is Edgware, London, where the Rosenberg family is on the brink of a crisis. Dad David is finding it hard to keep his catering business going. Mum Lesley is doing everything she can to hold the family together as things begin to slide and her husband struggles. Meanwhile, the kids are at loggerheads. Daughter Ruth, who works with the United Nations, is being condemned publicly for investigating war crimes in Gaza, while the eldest son Danny is fighting for the Israelis in Gaza. Their brother just drinks and fights, refusing to help with the family business. Then tragedy strikes, and the Rosenbergs are thrown into even worse turmoil as they face up to issues over their faith, their identity, and the pressures of tradition.

Exploring themes of individuality, the expectations of our communities, the responsibilities of family and the consequences of standing up for your beliefs, the play is even more timely and relevant today as Gaza is once more ripped to shreds by war and conflict.

British playwright, screen, television, and radio writer Ryan Craig (What We Did To Weinstein, The Glass Room, Filthy Business) is loved and respected for his sharp dialogue and rich characterisation, a writer who's fascinated by identity, morality, heritage, Jewish identity, and cultural displacement. He is unusually skilled at tackling complicated and sensitive topics, and does so with care and intelligence.

Award-winning director Lindsay Posner has delighted audiences as a prominent British theatre director with all sorts of exceptional West End shows under his belt, including stints with the Royal Court Theatre and the RSC. He has also worked in opera and directed plays on TV.
