The Full Monty description
Joyful, fast-paced and very funny, here's your chance to see The Full Monty.
It's back! Simon Beaufoy's adaptation of the iconic 1997 movie, The Full Monty, celebrates the film's 30th anniversary with a UK tour before landing in the capital at the New Wimbledon Theatre.
The story involves six unemployed Sheffield steelworkers, Gaz and his friends, who are all struggling to cope with the emotional impact of joblessness. When they set up a male stripper act to earn cash and heal their self-esteem, a grand story unfolds exploring themes of masculinity and friendship. The men's journey to rediscover their pride and dignity is fast-paced and hilarious, showcasing the resilience we can all find inside ourselves in dark and difficult times, and celebrating the power of hope.
The film, which surprised critics by attracting huge acclaim, was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture. The stage show's world premiere hit Sheffield with a splash in 2013, winning the year's Tony Award for Best Play and delighting audiences at the Noel Coward Theatre a year later. It has toured three times since then. The world might have moved on, but three decades later this heart-warming story hasn't lost any of its power.
This time around the director is Michael Gyngell. There's choreography and intimacy direction from Ian West, set and costume design from Jasmine Swann, lighting design from Andrew Exeter, and sound design by Chris Whybrow. The casting director is Marc Frankum and the show is presented by The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham and Buxton Opera House.
Let The Full Monty tickets entertain you with its wit, humour, good cheer, hilarity and happy ending.
