The Enormous Crocodile description

Help! It’s a crocodile... and it’s absolutely ENORMOUS! Your little ones will adore this brilliant production starring a huge beast searching the jungle for a nice, juicy little child to eat. Scary in a beautiful way, it’s a thrill a minute for every child who loves a great adventure.

What happens in the jungle?

The Enormous Crocodile is wandering around in a deep green, lush jungle on the hunt for tasty children. He’s a big fan of their delicious little fingers and squidgy, podgy knees. Who will stop him?

His fellow jungle creatures can foil his secret plans and reveal his clever tricks, but it’s going to take bravery and courage. Will they do it?

A dazzling creative team

This is a lovely new musical version of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s picture book, spiced up with glorious tunes by Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab, the Sudanese-US musician who mixes up krautrock, prog rock, electronica, free jazz and funk rock with Sudanese pop to amaze audiences.

There’s a hilarious book and captivating lyrics by Suhayla El-Bushra (Arabian Nights, Royal Lyceum Edinburgh, The Long Song, Chichester Festival Theatre, Channel 4’s Ackley Bridge), with extra music and lyrics from Tom Brady (The Butterfly Lion, Chichester Festival Theatre, Musical Supervisor and Arranger for Guys & Dolls, Bridge Theatre).

Directed by Emily Lim (Brainstorm for Company Three, National Theatre, Pericles, National Theatre), the production stars a jungle’s worth of fabulous puppets by one of the UK’s leading puppetry directors and designers Toby Olié (Spirited Away, Imperial Theatre Tokyo, Pinocchio, NT, 101 Dalmatians, Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), who also co-directs.

The set and costume design is by Fly Davis (I Want My Hat Back, National Theatre, Ocean At The End of The Lane, National Theatre and West End). The musical has been developed by Emily Lim, Ahmed Abdullahi Gallab, Suhayla El-Bushra, Tom Brady and the Roald Dahl Story Company. It’s a Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Roald Dahl Story Company and Leeds Playhouse production.
