The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind description
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind premieres at @sohoplace, a delightful play full of hope.
The West End premiere of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind tells the true story of 13-year-old William Kamkwamba, based on the memoir by the author of the same name and the brilliant 2019 Netflix movie directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor.
Malawi isn't just a poor country. It's suffering from a horrific drought. William is passionate about science and engineering. He designs and builds a wind turbine from waste materials, bringing fresh water and electricity to his village to help save the people from famine. His determination and resourcefulness serve as an inspiration to the entire community.
The story explores the power of education, the joy of innovation, the importance of resilience, and the way hope lights up our lives. A charming lesson in believing in yourself whatever happens, it's as educational as it is entertaining. You'll leave the venue uplifted, knowing that we're all capable of making positive change happen and more aware of the ways climate change is already affecting people in other countries.
The musical is directed by Lynette Linton, with a book and lyrics by Richy Hughes and music by Tim Sutton. It's produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, with Chiwetel Ejiofor as an executive producer for this stage adaptation. The cast includes Alistair Nwachukwu (The Line of Beauty, A Friend of Dorothy, Choir Boy, Netflix's Shadow and Bone) in the lead role.
You'll fall in love with this heartfelt new production. Put The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind tickets on your 'to-do' list and prepare for a unique West End musical experience
