The Baker's Wife description

Featuring a delicious score by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) and a book by Joseph Stein (Fiddler on the Roof), this gorgeous treat of a musical is in the West End for the first time since 1990. Everyone who sees it loves it. Don’t miss this!

The story is set in a sleepy little French country town, where the people come to depend on the fine breads baked by their new baker, Aimable. When his young wife Genevieve flees with a handsome shepherd, the baker is too depressed to bake. The hungry villagers hatch a plan to bring Genevieve back.

A classic story with a top class cast and creatives

The charming storyline is based on the 1938 French film La Femme du Boulanger by Marcel Pagnol and Jean Giono, which is in turn based on Giono’s novel Blue Boy. Lucie Jones (Wicked, Waitress) plays the Baker’s Wife, Clive Rowe (Sister Act, The Prince of Egypt) is the Baker, and Sutara Gayle plays Therese. Norman Pace (Hale and Pace, Hairspray) plays Claude and Liam Tamne (Bonnie & Clyde, Wicked) is Barnaby. Finty Williams (Angelina Ballerina, The Ocean at the End of the Lane) plays Hortense.

They’re joined by Joaquin Pedro Valdes (Death Note) as Dominique, Josefina Gabrielle (Les Miserables) as Denise, Michael Matus (Hex) as The Marquis, and David Seadon-Young (Aspects of Love) as Antoine. Plus Jack Gardner as Philippe, Mark Extance as The Teacher, Matthew Seadon-Young as Priest, and Bobbie Chambers, Hana Ichijo and Robyn Rose as the Nieces, along with Bart Lambert, David Pendlebury, and Annabelle Williams.

Director Gordon Greenberg recently worked on The Heart of Rock and Roll on Broadway. There’s choreography by WhatsOnStage Award winner Matt Cole, design by Paul Farnsworth, lighting by Paul Anderson, musical supervision and orchestrations by Stuart Morley, and musical direction by Dustin Conrad.

Come along to enjoy a show full of warmth and heart, with unforgettable music and a happy-ending plot everyone enjoys. Great fun - and as so many have said in the past, this show has always been a secret superstar.
