Tartuffe (Remixed) description

Tartuffe (Remixed) relocates the French comedy by Moliere to an African-Caribbean home in the UK.

The venue's production of Venus and Adonis, with Mark Rylance, sold out. Now Rylance is back at the Marylebone Theatre to star in Tartuffe (Remixed), a fresh new version of Moliere's classic comedy. It comes from the pen of Darren Raymond, who also directs, and the action takes place in England.

Expect a wonderfully sharp comedy that unfolds in dazzling rhyming couplets, full of vibrancy and humour.

The plot? Christmas is coming and the outspoken Afolabi–Williams family meets up at Oga's posh house for four weeks, an annual event that's never peaceful, rarely straightforward, and always laced with drama. This time around Marianne's marriage to Valere is a hot topic. But tensions rise even further when Tartuffe turns up. Is he as devout as he seems or as dodgy as some of the family members suspect? As the festive season draws closer the family becomes deeply embroiled in fierce arguments about faith, manipulation, and control.

This brilliant collaboration between Marylebone Theatre, David Luff, Patrick Myles, Intermission, Darren Raymond and Mark Rylance bodes well for a fantastic experience. Raymond's remixed versions of Shakespeare plays, created for young actors, have a great reputation. Moliere's beloved old story makes a brilliantly funny, surprisingly poignant modern play. By all accounts Mark Rylance was born for the leading role, and his fellow actors from Intermission are fantastically talented.

The creative team also includes the Olivier-winning set and costume designer ULTZ, who worked with Rylance on Jerusalem and Much Ado About Nothing.

Buy Tartuffe (Remixed) tickets to enjoy a fantastic re-working of a farce that's just as funny now as the original was in 1664.
