Roleplay description
Roleplay is a darkly comic one-woman play about sex, power and the pursuit of online fame.
Danni is a struggling feminist podcaster who decides to reinvent herself in search of a bigger audience. As her new persona takes hold, the line between the performance and the person behind it begins to blur, and what starts as a comedy turns into a psychological thriller. The play looks at modern sex, the commodification of feminism and the era of the personal brand.
The play was developed in Sydney as part of Belvoir St Theatre's Up Late series and had its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2026, where it was a Guardian, Time Out and Telegraph top pick. The Guardian called Reilly "a bold and deft performer in a knotty solo show". The Soho Theatre run is its London premiere. It is produced by Francesca Moody Productions, the Olivier Award-winning company behind the original stage productions of Fleabag and Baby Reindeer, and Global Creatures, producers of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Performances are strictly for audiences aged 18 and over.
Hannah Reilly wrote the play and performs it. She is an Australian writer, lyricist, director and performer whose earlier work includes the musical comedy The Deb, and Roleplay is her first international stage work. It is directed by Paige Rattray, former Director of New Work and Artistic Development at Sydney Theatre Company, whose UK credits include directing Fangirls at the Lyric Hammersmith and working as production dramaturg on The Picture of Dorian Gray in the West End. The creative team includes lighting designer Prema Mehta, sound designer Lucy Baker-Swinburn, composer Clemence Williams and choreographer Betty Grumble.
