Relics description
Do you like your comedy drama nice and dark? Relics fits the bill perfectly.
This is your chance to experience a wonderfully dark comedy drama directed by the award-winning Michael Longhurst (Constellations, Next To Normal), a world premiere play written by the brilliant Ben Ockrent (Spider, Swansong, Winds of Change, Edmund the Magnificent, Youngers). Welcome to Relics.
The story goes like this. Four siblings get together for the first time in ages to clear out their late mum's home and divide up her possessions. But a family secret that has been buried for a very long time emerges, threatening to tear their world apart as everything they thought was true about themselves and each other is challenged. Liv, who has always been a human bulldozer, is sure she can force things back to the way they once were. Michelle is fed up with toeing the family line. Jonny is determined to push everyone's buttons. Will they ultimately lose everything, including their dignity? As ancient rivalries, fragile loyalties and shocking revelations batter the siblings and the themes of memory, morality, and legacy unfold, their reactions are sharply observed.
Ben Ockrent is a prolific, award-winning writer and director of films, TV shows, online content, radio and theatre, whose work has been broadcast in countries across the world. His first short film, Dust, with Alan Rickman and Jodie Whittaker, was nominated for a BAFTA.
Relics is a compelling blend of wit, unflinching honesty, and family dynamics that'll make you laugh while gasping out loud. It's being produced by Lyric Hammersmith in association with Francesca Moody Productions and Chalk Hills.
