Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure description
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure is Secret Cinema's live staging of Disney's pirate adventure, in which the audience joins the story rather than watching it from a seat.
The story follows the first film, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. When Elizabeth Swann, the governor's daughter, is taken by Captain Barbossa and the cursed crew of the Black Pearl, the young blacksmith Will Turner joins forces with the unpredictable Captain Jack Sparrow to get her back. Guests are free to roam richly detailed environments, including the pirate haven of Tortuga, meet the characters and become part of the action as it unfolds around them.
The production is a world premiere and the first time the franchise has been adapted as a fully immersive theatrical experience, licensed through Disney Theatrical Group. Breaking new ground for the company, it puts live theatrical storytelling at its centre, combining live performance, stunts and a live band with specially selected clips from the film rather than a full screening. It is the opening production at Secret Cinema's new purpose-built venue on Greenwich Peninsula, a short walk from North Greenwich station and The O2.
The production is directed by Olivier Award winner Matt Costain, who has directed more than 20 Secret Cinema productions, including Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical, Stranger Things and Star Wars. The theatrical adaptation is by Kait Kerrigan, who wrote the book for The Great Gatsby on Broadway and in the West End. Two-time Emmy Award winner Jason Sherwood is the production designer, and Olivier Award winner Alan Williams (Sunset Blvd., Funny Girl) is responsible for musical supervision, arrangements and orchestrations. Costumes are by Susan Kulkarni and fight direction is by Alex Payne.
George Maguire, who won an Olivier Award for his performance as Dave Davies in Sunny Afternoon, plays Captain Jack Sparrow. Phil Daniels, known for Quadrophenia and EastEnders and for stage work with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the National Theatre, plays Captain Barbossa. They are joined by Lily Blunsom as Elizabeth Swann, Harrison Wilde as Will Turner and Gleanne Purcell-Brown as Anamaria.
Book tickets for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Immersive Adventure and step into the world of Captain Jack Sparrow in person.
