Pinocchio - Globe description

Pinocchio is a family musical drawn from Carlo Collodi's story, returning to Shakespeare's Globe for the festive season.

Geppetto is a restless woodcarver who wants more than his traditional town can give him. He carves a wooden puppet, names him Pinocchio, and the two set out together to find a family of their own. Along the way they meet a run of strange and memorable characters, and each of them learns something about what it means to be human.

It premiered at the Globe in December 2025 and returns after a first run that critics received well: "Gorgeously enchanting" (Sunday Mirror), "Truly magical" (BroadwayWorld), "One of the best family shows around" (The Telegraph) and "Wonderful festive treat" (The Independent). It is a stage musical rather than a version of the Disney film: Collodi published The Adventures of Pinocchio as a serial between 1881 and 1883, and the story has been adapted many times since. The production is recommended for ages 5 and over and runs two hours and ten minutes including an interval.

The book and lyrics are by Charlie Josephine (I, Joan at the Globe; Cowbois, Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal Court). Music and lyrics are by Jim Fortune (Mr Gum and the Dancing Bear; Hex at the National Theatre). Globe Associate Artistic Director Sean Holmes (Romeo and Juliet, The Merry Wives of Windsor) directs, with design by Grace Smart, choreography by Vicki Igbokwe-Ozoagu, puppetry direction and design by Peter O'Rourke, sound by Tony Gayle and orchestrations by Zac Gvi.

Casting for this run is still to be announced. The casting director is Becky Paris CDG, with Roberta Zuric as associate director and Liz Flint as voice coach.
