One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest description
See a classic thriller unfold on stage with One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest comes with a top class leading cast, Aaron Pierre (Mufasa: The Lion King, Rebel Ridge) as Randle P. McMurphy and Giles Terera (Hamilton, Othello) as Dale Harding. Director Clint Dyer is respected for his innovative, exciting interpretations of classic stories. Put them together, and the dynamics are looking excellent for this re-telling of a story made famous by the cult film starring Jack Nicholson.
The play has been adapted from Ken Kesey's original iconic novel. It's set in a grim psychiatric facility, part hospital, part prison, and follows the story of Chief Bromden, a patient who hasn't spoken for years. When rebellious McMurphy arrives to stir things up, the Chief's life changes. But the more McMurphy gleefully defies Nurse Ratched, the closer his horrible fate comes.
Exploring a dehumanising system and what it did to the people forced to endure it, this is a play to remember. Themes of colonialism, identity, and the struggle against institutional power create big drama, giving it a fresh contemporary feel to emphasise how important our voices and our freedom are in times of oppression.
The production is part of The Old Vic's In The Round Season, where the seating surrounds a circular stage for an extra-intimate audience experience.
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest tickets offer raw, intense, and moving theatre that's just as mind-boggling as the legendary novel and movie.
