Nero description
Nero is a new musical that reimagines the life of Rome's most notorious emperor as the story of a young artist consumed by power.
Long before his name became synonymous with tyranny, Nero was an artist, a performer and a reluctant heir thrust into unimaginable power. As ambition collides with family, love and political intrigue, a young ruler's desperate search for identity spirals into madness, forging one of history's most infamous legends. The musical traces his transformation from aspiring performer to despot.
It is a new musical from the writing partnership behind Spring Awakening, which won eight Tony Awards in 2007, including Best Musical. The production plays a limited run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
The musical features book and lyrics by Steven Sater and music by Duncan Sheik, the Tony Award-winning collaborators on Spring Awakening. It is directed by Lindsay Posner, with choreography by James Cousins, set and costume design by Georgia Lowe, lighting by Robbie Butler and sound by Tony Gayle.
Andrew Barth Feldman plays the title role. He made his Broadway debut in the title role of Dear Evan Hansen and starred opposite Jennifer Lawrence in the film No Hard Feelings. Further casting is to be announced.
Book now to see the rise and unravelling of Rome's most infamous emperor, reimagined as a new musical at Southwark Playhouse Elephant.
