Much Ado About Nothing description
You'll love this new production of Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
Much Ado About Nothing is always a treat. A masterpiece packed with sharp-tongued gossip, it tells the story of a powerful attraction at a time when strict social realities and an obsession with female virtue made romance a lot more complicated than it needed to be.
The action, which takes place in the 1500s in Messina, Sicily, at Governor Leonato's estate, explores what it means to achieve the goal of social grace, how deception is used as a means to an end, what happens when honour is lost, and the horrors of being shamed in public.
The plot goes like this: the war has ended, but the fight for love is just beginning. We meet Beatrice, who is fed up with love and decides not to have anything to do with men. But there's something about Benedick she really likes, and she can't seem to stay away. In the meantime, secrets are being shared, gossip is running wild, and people's reputations are on the verge of being ruined. Ultimately, nobody is very good at the frantic face-saving that's involved.
Chelsea Walker's (All's Well That End's Well) version of this beloved romantic comedy delivers a highly entertaining exploration of bad behaviour, second chances, and recovering from old wounds. The creative team includes Casting Director Becky Paris CDG, Composer Angus MacRae, and Designer Sami Fendall.
Immerse yourself in a dramatic sixteenth century scandal with Much Ado About Nothing tickets, a classy blend of romance, deception, and humour.
