A festive sequel to Pride and Prejudice that hands the story to the Bennet sister nobody expected to get one.
Two years after the close of Jane Austen's novel, the Bennet family gathers at Pemberley for the festive season. Elizabeth and Jane have settled into the lives everyone predicted for them, while Mary, the bookish middle sister, is still treated as the afterthought of the family. Then Lord Arthur de Bourgh arrives for Christmas, and Mary finds herself weighing a future she had stopped believing was available to her.
The play premiered in the United States in 2016 and has been widely produced there since, including a sell-out run in Chicago. This is its UK premiere, presented by Park Theatre and Adam Blanshay Productions, the pairing behind the theatre's previous Christmas show Dracapella.
Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley is written by Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon. Gunderson is among the most produced living playwrights in the United States, with credits including I and You, Silent Sky and The Revolutionists. Melcon is a dramaturg and producer, and has written a sequence of Austen-inspired plays with Gunderson, among them the companion piece The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley.
The director and cast are to be announced. The production is staged in Park200, the main house at Park Theatre in Finsbury Park, runs two hours and thirty minutes including an interval, and carries an age guidance of 12+.
