Mary, Queen of Scots description
A major new production of Mary Queen of Scots is being staged at Sadler's Wells.
Love ballet? This fresh new version of Mary Queen of Scots will blow your mind thanks to Soutra Gilmour's eye-catching contemporary set, complemented by a suite of dazzling costumes inspired by punk and haute couture. New music by the team that gave us 2022's hugely popular Coppélia seals the deal, performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.
The show has already proved a big hit with critics and audiences at the Edinburgh International Festival, inspiring standing ovations and winning Best International Festival Show at the List Awards.
The story? Queen Elizabeth 1st of England is on her deathbed, haunted by memories and fantasies about her beloved yet treacherous cousin Mary Queen of Scots, whose execution warrant she signed in 1587.
This thrilling production, which comes from Scottish Ballet's choreographer-in-residence Sophie Laplane with co-creator James Bonas (The Crucible), explores the complicated relationship between these two powerful women. Laplane's lush choreography mixes the classic with the contemporary to creatively reshape a true tale of fierce rivalry, political shenanigans, and shared destiny.
Treat yourself to Mary Queen of Scots tickets to see a show that has captivated everyone who sees it with the spectacle, the story, the dance, and the glorious setting.
