Man and Boy description
Ben Daniels and Laurie Kynaston star in Man and Boy, a gripping modern classic.
This revival of Terence Rattigan's dark family drama Man and Boy is wonderfully gritty. Add stage and screen actor Ben Daniels (Rings of Power, House of Cards) and star-in-the-making Laurie Kynaston (Long Day's Journey into Night) to the mix and you're in for a treat.
Directed by Anthony Lau (The Crucible) on his National Theatre debut, this fresh production of the gripping 1963 psychological thriller is Set in the 1930s, when the western world's financial system imploded and America went broke. We meet the international financier Gregor Antonescu, a ruthless sociopath whose empire is about to collapse. Hiding out in his estranged son's New York apartment, his arrival sends the family spiralling into a living hell of manipulation and emotional betrayal.
Originally staged during 1963 at London's Queen's Theatre, then at New York's Brooks Atkinson Theatre, there was a Broadway revival in 2011. As one of the playwright's lesser known but most provocative dramas, the themes of power, greed, morality, and ambition make it just as relevant today.
Ben Daniels plays Gregor Antonescu and Laurie Kynaston plays Basil Anthony. Phoebe Campbell plays Carol Penn, Isabella Laughland is Countess Antonescu, Malcolm Sinclair is Mark Herries and Leo Wan plays David Beeston. The Set and Costume Designer Georgia Lowe joins Lighting Designer Elliot Griggs, Movement Director Aline David, Composer Angus MacRae, Sound Designer Giles Thomas, Casting Director Martin Poile CDG and Staff Director Rachel Lemon to complete the creative team.
Rattigan's 50th anniversary falls in 2027, making Man and Boy tickets something to celebrate. It'll blow your mind with its power, presence, and plot.
