Maiden Voyage description
It's a true story of courage, determination and grit! Don't miss Maiden Voyage the Musical.
We can only imagine how exciting it is to experience your own life story unfold as a West End musical. Tracy Edwards MBE and her heroic crew must be thrilled to see Maiden Voyage in town.
It all started in 1987 when, as a young galley cook, Tracy Edwards decided to lead a female sailing crew to victory against all the odds. She bought a run-down ten year old yacht and never looked back. In 1989 she skippered the first all-female crew to compete in the 1989/90 Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race, also becoming the first woman to receive the Yachtsman of the Year Trophy. This fabulous new West End musical charts her journey across the oceans and into the history books, revealing what drove Tracy Edwards to reach for 'extraordinary'.
Directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson, the cast includes Chelsea Halfpenny (9 to 5, Waitress UK tour, Emmerdsale, Casualty) as Tracy Edwards, Naomi Alade (SIX) as Jo, Laura Tyrer (Chicago) as Pat, Shahaf Ifhar (Tom Lehrer is Teaching Math and Doesn’t Want to Talk to You, Upstairs at the Gatehouse) as King Hussein, Juliette Artigala (Les Misérables, Théâtre du Châtelet) as Michele/Tanja, Alex Bowen (Mrs Doubtfire) as Dawn Riley, Molly Cleere (Ghost the Musical) as Nancy, and Sam DeFeo on her professional debut as Mandi. Olivia Hewitt-Jones (Rocky Horror Show) as Marie Claude, Rowan Macpherson (Babies) as Sally, Olivia Mitchell (Waitress) as Claire, Billy Roberts (Mrs Doubtfire) as Walter/Navigator, and Daniel Robinson (Glory Ride) as Howard Gibbons.
There's a book and lyrics by Mindi Dickstein (Little Women, Benny & Joon) and music by Carmel Dean (Renascense, Well-Behaved Women). Directed by Tara Overfield Wilkinson, the show is presented by Mark Cortale, Dale Franzen, Jonathan Murray and Harvey Reese, in association with Shared Experience. The orchestrations are by Michael Starobin, musical direction by Simona Budd, set and costume design by Abby Clarke, lighting by Megan Lucas, and casting by Harry Blumenau.
