Macbeth description
When the Donmar Warehouse announced its Christmas revival of Macbeth, the show sold out months in advance. Now David Tennant returns to create Shakespeare’s legendary magic again, this time at the Harold Pinter Theatre. If you missed it last time, now’s your chance.
This is the same brilliant production that wowed audiences at the Donmar. You’ll wear special headphones for the play, an extraordinary experience giving you access to every word spoken on stage, even the tiniest whispers. Talk about totally immersive - it’s quite remarkable. Thanks to this binaural technology and the subtleties of the high tech sound design, there’s a whole new world of 3D sound to heighten the drama.
Stunning performances from Tennant and Jumbo
This is Max Webster’s version of Shakespeare’s Scottish tragedy, described as striking deep chords in the audience members and led by wonderfully observed performances from Tennant and Cush Jumbo.
It’s no surprise David Tennant won the Critics’ Circle Award for Best Shakespearean performance for this production, and no wonder the play is transferring to a bigger theatreland venue. So what’s in store? Tennant delivers an unusually malevolent Macbeth and Jumbo’s Lady Macbeth is just as powerful, becoming steadily weaker as her King dives deeper into his own madness.
Superb cast and creative team
David Tenant’s West End credits include Good, The Muppets Take The O2, Much Ado About Nothing and Don Huan in Soho. Cush Jumbo appeared in Brixton Stories at the Lyric Theatre, Liquid Gold at the Almeida and Love's Labour's Lost at the Globe to name just three. They’re both multi-award-winning actors on screen and on stage. The rest of the cast comprises Moyo Akandé, Annie Grace, Brian James O’Sullivan, Casper Knopf, Cal MacAninch, Kathleen MacInnes, Alasdair Macrae, Rona Morison, Noof Ousellam, Raffi Phillips, Jatinder Singh Randhawa, Ros Watt, and Benny Young.
Sound design is by Gareth Fry (The Encounter), with live music from a Scottish folk band led by Alasdair Macrae, with the award-winning Gaelic singer Kathleen MacInnes. The design comes from Rosanna Vize and the lighting design by Bruno Poet. There’s movement by Shelley Maxwell, composition and musical direction by Macrae, fight direction by Rachel Bown-Williams and Ruth Cooper-Brown of Rc-Annie Ltd, and casting direction from Anna Cooper.
