Love's Labour's Lost description
It's Shakespeare's Love's Labour's Lost, but not as you know it!
This fresh new Globe Theatre production of Love's Labour's Lost would make the Bard smile with its bold, vivid flamenco-inspired focus, a treat for people who already love his work and a delight for newcomers to the work of one of the world's greatest playwrights.
The action is set in the court of Navarre, where the King and his lords have promised to avoid women for three whole years so they can take their studies seriously. But when four women arrive on a diplomatic mission, they test the devotion of the men. Will their vows be ruined? Themes of desire, reckoning, rationalisation and reality versus fantasy make this a wonderful study in the complexities of courtly love, a place where passion, power and poetry collide to create sheer magic.
The play marks the Globe Theatre directing debut of the Associate Artist Indiana Lown-Collins, a former Globe Resident Artist and JMK Award winner for The Solid Life of Sugar Water. Her Spanish roots have inspired this new version of the popular comedy, lighting it up with the passionate artistry of flamenco.
The creative team for this rarely staged, much-loved classic includes Casting Director Becky Paris CDG, Designer Katie Lias and Movement Director Carmen Igarza.
Grab yourself some Love's Labour's Lost tickets and immerse yourself in a world of fiery romantic tension that beautifully blends joy, revelry, longing, grief, and melancholy.
