La Distance description

What happens when we've ruined our own planet? Find out with La Distance.

La Distance is written and directed by Tiago Rodrigues, a powerful story exploring what happens when we don't believe we can change our ruined world and decide to move to another planet.

The year is 2077 and our planet is broken. The environments we depend on are collapsing. Some humans have decided the only way ahead is to leave Earth and head for a new life on Mars, where they might be able to create a fresh beginning for humanity. Millions of miles apart, a dad and his daughter are battling to hold onto their relationship as she begins a new life on the red planet.

This is a very beautiful, profound exploration of hope, separation, and the bond between children and their parents. Described as inventive, moving and intimate, it is performed in the original French with English surtitles. And it's in the capital after a smash-hit world premiere at the 2025 Festival d'Avignon, in the capital for a strictly limited run.

Alison Dechamps and Adama Diop play the daughter and dad in this intensely captivating play translated by Thomas Resendes with surtitle translation to English by Daniel Hahn. The Set Designer Fernando Ribeiro,

Costume Designer José António Tenente and Lighting Designer Rui Monteiro join Original Music and Sound Designer Pedro Costa and Artistic Collaborator Sophie Bricaire to create something unique that'll stay with you for a long time afterwards.

Buy La Distance tickets to immerse yourself in a future we all hope will never happen, a celebration of love, loss, and the beauty of our unique home planet.
