La bohème (Royal Opera House) description
Everyone loves La Boheme, Puccini's delicious romance about true love.
The scene is Paris, where a sweet exploration of first love unfurls. It's both funny and heartbreaking, a wonderful choice whether you're new to opera or a seasoned fan. Welcome to La Boheme, which premiered in Turin in 1896, debuted at Covent Garden in 1897, and has delighted audiences ever since.
The plot? When penniless poet Rodolfo meets seamstress Mimì, there are fireworks: this is a case of love at first sight. Rodolfo introduces Mimì to his bohemian friends Marcello, Colline and Schaunard, and they all get on like a house on fire. Life is good. But then Rodolfo finds out Mimì is seriously ill. The winter weather is cold and getting worse. Can the heat of young love and the warmth of friendship keep the group going until spring?
The beloved staging by Richard Jones returns to the spotlight, showcasing Paris on the edge of dramatic change. The soaring duets and poignant laments throughout Puccini's gorgeous score are sung here by two world-class casts, conducted by Lorenzo Passerini on his Royal Opera debut and Christopher Willis.
The cast, which varies by performance, includes Hrachuhí Bassénz, Stefan Pop, Germán E. Alcántara, Ruth Iniesta, Pierre Doyen, Juliana Grigoryan, Freddie De Tommaso, Luca Micheletti, Marina Monzó, and Modestas Sedlevičius. Giacomo Puccini's music, plus Libretto by Giuseppe Giacosa and Luigi Illica, joins designer Stewart Laing, Lighting designer Mimi Jordan Sherin and Movement director Sarah Fahie to create an irresistible opera experience.
Every soaring love duet, every intimate aria, every rousing chorus, you'll adore every second of this classic opera drama with La Boheme tickets.
