Kenrex description
A gripping thriller starring the 'astonishing' Jack Holden, Kenrex is a remarkable musical.
A West End musical like no other, Kenrex has already enjoyed a critically acclaimed run in London. Now it's in town to thrill us all over again, a gritty one-man western-inspired show that tells the story of a unique true crime that rocked the USA back in the '80s.
Roll back time to 10th July 1981. The place is a small town called Skidmore, in Missouri, where a local man is shot dead in broad daylight. Sixty people witness the crime, but nobody calls an ambulance or offers the victim any help. When the police come asking questions, everyone claims they never saw a thing.
The victim Ken McElroy was the town bully, a man who terrified his community. He'd been accused of dozens of crimes, everything from assault to molesting children, statutory rape, arson, burglary, and animal cruelty, just a few in a long and ugly list of horrors. But he was never convicted, always managing to wriggle out of trouble. The town finally took revenge on that dark day, accosting him outside the pub where they shot him dead, finally bringing natural justice to the townspeople he'd hurt and frightened.
The musical stars Jack Holden (TV series Marriage and Ten Percent, the West End's War Horse, and several productions with the RSC), an Olivier nominee for his outstanding one-man show Cruise. The live soundtrack is by John Patrick Elliott, and the action is co-written by Holden and Ed Stambollouian, who also directs. Design by Anisha Fields, Lighting and video design by Joshua Pharo, Sound design by Giles Thomas, and Movement direction by Sarah Golding complete the creative team, along with Production Manager James Anderton. The show is a co-production between Sheffield Theatres and Aria Entertainment (Flowers for Mrs Harris, Brokeback Mountain, Cruise).
A powerful true crime story about a town whose people had suffered enough and decided to take the law into their own hands, Kenrex tickets are a treat for everyone who loves extraordinary musical theatre.
