The action unfolds at a busy Harlem hair braiding salon, a witty story that's both 'joyous and razor-sharp'. You'll meet a group of West African hair braiders and their customers as they experience one horribly hot and sticky summer's day in the city they love and hate, exchanging laughs and secrets, lies and betrayals, heartbreak and big dreams.

A glorious celebration of community, the show follows on from the huge hit School Girls or The African Mean Girls Play, which won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play, written by Jocelyn Bioh and directed by Monique Touko. Jocelyn Bioh is a Ghanaian-American writer and actor, Monique Touko won Best Director at The Stage Debut Awards 2022 for Malindadzimu at the Hampstead Theatre, and they've collaborated again to create more theatre magic.

The play first opened on Broadway as part of Manhattan Theatre Club's 2023-24 season, where its run was extended twice before a US tour began at the end of 2024.
