Jack and the Beanstalk description

Jack and the Beanstalk is Stratford East's family pantomime, a new take on the classic fairy tale with songs, laughs and plenty of audience participation.

Jack has nothing but a handful of beans and a head full of dreams. But when those beans grow into a giant beanstalk reaching high into the clouds, his world is turned upside down. With a fearsome giant, a treasure-filled castle and more trouble than you can shake a stick at, Jack is about to discover that the biggest adventures can start with the smallest things.

The pantomime is an annual highlight at Stratford East, the historic East London theatre whose alumni include Joan Littlewood and Barbara Windsor. This new show reunites the team behind the theatre's award-winning 2025 pantomime Mama Goose, and is packed with big laughs, music, surprises and audience participation.

The show is written and directed by Vikki Stone and Tonderai Munyevu. Stone is a writer, composer and comedian who co-adapted and wrote the Olivier Award-winning Hey Duggee: The Live Theatre Show, has written the pantomimes Cinderella and Aladdin for the Lyric Hammersmith, and is writing the stage adaptation of Coyote Ugly. She was also the musical director and band leader of the ITV Saturday-night show Romeo and Duet. Munyevu is an actor, writer and director whose Mugabe, My Dad and Me won Best New Play at the 2022 UK Theatre Awards; his other theatre work includes The Moors and Mansfield Park. Stone made her directing debut in 2025 with the musical Stalled at the King's Head Theatre, the same year she co-wrote and co-directed Mama Goose with Munyevu.

Casting is to be announced.

Book now for Jack and the Beanstalk, a festive show for all the family about how the biggest adventures can start with the smallest things.
