Ivanov description
Ivanov is a bold new adaptation of Chekhov's darkly comic classic, directed by Simon Stone.
The brilliant Chris Pine (Star Trek, Wonder Woman) makes his London stage debut in Ivanov, a story blending desire, doubt and self-destruction in a bold new version Chekhov would adore.
This is one of Chekhov's best-loved tragicomic plays, a story dealing with mid-life crises, self-sabotage and burnout. You'll meet Nikolai Ivanov, who is so exhausted he can't remember how 'happy' feels. He might have enjoyed a great reputation, he may have married the perfect woman and his career might have been a great success, but he's feeling far from confident. Right now, he's in debt, his wife is ill, and although there's a party tonight at the Lebedevs' place, he can't shake the feeling of doom that bedevils him. Can Ivanov rekindle his love of life? Will he save his marriage, regain his will to live, and mend his reputation? Or will it all slip away?
The show's director Simon Stone (The Lady from the Sea) won an Olivier Award, Drama Desk Award and Obie Award for Yerma, along with a BAFTA nomination for The Dig. Chris Pine has appeared in a whopping twenty three movies, as well as playing Captain Kirk in the Star Trek series, and Steve Trevor in the DC extended universe.
The same creative team that worked on Stone's The Lady from the Sea reunites set designer Lizzie Clachan, costume designer Mel Page, lighting designer Nick Schliepe and composition and sound expert Stefan Gregory, and the show is cast by Jessica Ronane.
Ivanov tickets whisk you away to enjoy a keenly observed classic comic drama, brought into the twenty first century with verve, skill, and imagination. What a story!
