It's A Sin description
It's A Sin is Rambert's dance adaptation of Russell T Davies' television drama about friendship, love and loss in 1980s London.
In the early 1980s, Ritchie, Roscoe, Colin and Jill are young Londoners chasing identity, connection and a life on their own terms. Their days and nights are filled with music, clubs and friendship, and the future feels limitless. As the AIDS crisis unfolds, their lives are changed for good. Love, fear and defiance collide as the friends fight for each other in a world that is becoming increasingly hostile to them. The piece moves between past and present, asking who gets remembered, who gets left behind and how we choose to live now.
The production is a new work, inspired by the award-winning Channel 4 series created by Davies, which took its title from the 1987 Pet Shop Boys single. Davies, the Pet Shop Boys and Glyn Fussell, co-founder of the club night Sink The Pink, are its executive producers. It is presented by Rambert and Factory International, and co-produced with Wales Millennium Centre, Capital Theatres, Sadler's Wells and Les Théâtres de la Ville. Following its world premiere at Aviva Studios in Manchester, it tours the UK and comes to Sadler's Wells in London.
It's A Sin is directed and choreographed by Benoit Swan Pouffer, Rambert's Artistic Director. Pouffer previously led Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet in New York, and directed and choreographed Rambert's Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, written by Steven Knight. Davies' writing credits include Queer as Folk and the revival of Doctor Who.
The piece is performed by the dancers of Rambert, Britain's oldest dance company, and draws on archive footage and testimonial material from the period. Individual casting has not been announced.
