Il Trovatore description
You'll love Il Trovatore, Verdi's classic story of love, obsession, superstition and revenge.
Make your way to the Royal Opera House for an opera legend. This is Il Trovatore, one of Verdi's most powerful masterpieces, performed at the ROH. Director Adele Thomas' production is being hailed as a huge critical success, reinterpreting the composer's lush story of desire in a uniquely imaginative and anarchic way. Think medieval and you get the picture.
Sung in Italian with captions and translations in English on screens at the venue, you'll meet the Troubadour Manrico and the military commander Count di Luna, fierce rivals for Leonora's love. Leonora adores Manrico but the Count is green with jealousy, prepared to do absolutely anything to have her for himself. Battles, a duel, and a mother with a gruesome past drive a story of vengeance, violence and abduction to its dramatic conclusion.
Three separate casts led by conductors Giacomo Sagripanti and Carlo Rizzi bring this dark story to life. Music by Giuseppe Verdi and Libretto from Salvadore Cammarano set the scene, with Designer Annemarie Woods, Lighting Designer Franck Evin, Dramaturg Beate Breidenbach and Choreographer Emma Woods completing the creative team.
Il Trovatore tickets take you to a world full of gorgeous music including the Anvil Chorus, Stride la vampa, Di quella pira, Il balen del suo sorriso and D'amor sull'ali rosee.
