I puritani description
Richard Jones directs I puritani, a fresh new staging of Bellini's sublime final opera.
Bellini's stunning score helps to make I puritani a story of profound emotional depth. Diving deep into tender true love and the agonising anguish of loss, this is Conductor Riccardo Frizza's Royal Opera debut.
Sometimes you need the courage of your convictions, the courage to fight for your love. This is one of those times. Elvira, a young Puritan girl, falls truly, madly and deeply in love with Arturo, who is a Royalist. At first her dad opposes the match. Then he agrees they can be married. But on the big day itself, Arturo disappears to help a Royalist prisoner escape, leaving Elvira with a broken heart. Certain he has abandoned her for another woman, she goes mad with grief. Arturo is eventually accused of treason, facing execution. Can the lovers survive?
Lisette Oropesa plays the devoted, deeply vulnerable Elvira, with Francesco Demuro as her brave lover. They're joined by Ildebrando D'Arcangelo, Andrzej Filończyk, and Marcela Rahal. The Chorus is the Royal Opera's own, directed by William Spaulding. The Orchestra of the Royal Opera House provides the gorgeous music, and your Concert Master is Sergey Levitin.
Along with the Music by Vincenzo Bellini and the Libretto from Carlo Pepoli, there's Set Design by Hyemi Shin, Costume Design from Nicky Gillibrand, and Lighting Design by Adam Silverman. Movement Direction from Sarah Fahie and Video Design by Sasha Balmazi-Owen complete the creative team.
Lose yourself in ethereal otherworldly arias, and immerse yourself in a love story like no other. I puritani tickets are all about the drama.
