Fanny description
Welcome to Fanny by Calum Finlay, a joyous tongue-in-cheek comedy.
RJG Productions in association with The Watermill Theatre present Fanny at the King's Head Theatre. This is the story of Fanny Mendelssohn, big sister of the famous composer Felix who wrote a string of smash hits in the 1800s, including The Wedding March. Felix proved such a hot musical sensation that Queen Victoria herself arranged a personal concert where he sang her best-loved Mendelssohn tune, Italien. But the thing is, Felix didn't write it. It was written by his sister, Fanny, then published under her brother's name.
When Fanny finds a letter inviting Felix to visit England again for the premiere of a brand new piece of work written for Victoria, Fanny decides to keep the letter from her brother, dress in his clothes, and visit Buckingham Palace herself. The resulting comedy is both joyful and irreverent, celebrating everything that's wonderful about music, family, and a talented composer whose creativity was never fully realised just because she was a woman.
Charlie Russell (Groan Ups, Birdsong, And Then There Were None, Charlie Russell Aims To Please, Kite Strings, Doctors) stars as Fanny herself as well as being the Creative Associate for the show. As a member of Mischief Theatre, playing the role of Sandra Wilkinson in the Goes Wrong plays, she co-produced the Mischief Movie Night London Run and UK Tour 2017/18. In 2019 she produced Piano_Play for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and she has written comedies for radio as well as TV.
Come to the King's Head to enjoy a rebellious, fun-filled production starring one of the nation's best-loved comedy stars of the stage.
